Literatures of the African Diaspora, Gender Studies, Gay and Lesbian Studies

Keith Mitchell’s primary area of specialization is literatures of the African Diaspora, including African American, West Indian, Afro-Canadian, Afro-British and African literatures. He co-edited a collection, After the Pain: New Essays on Gayl Jones (2006), which also included his own essay, “‘Trouble in Mind’: (Re)visioning Myth, Race, and Sexuality in Gayl Jones’ Corregidora.” He has presented papers on James Baldwin, Alice Walker, and Flannery O’Connor at international conferences. He is currently co-editor of a special issue of the Xavier Review on “Reading the Intersections of Sex and Spirit in the Creative Arts.”
