Dissertation Proposal Guidelines


Proposal Defense

Having passed the qualifying exam, the doctoral student must submit his or her dissertation proposal and defend the proposal before the Doctoral Committee. The thesis committee composed of the thesis advisor and at least two other committee members. The committee members shall be Plastics Engineering faculty or other qualified university faculty or industry/government representation. The proposal must be defended in person; however, under unusual circumstances, the proposal defense can be done by teleconference.

 

Proposal Guidelines

The written proposal page layout and margins should comply with Graduate School Thesis Guidelines. A total page length between 15 and 40 pages is recommended.  The outline given below is suggested:

  1. Title and signature page
  2. Abstract

  3. Contents list
  4. Chapter 1 Introduction
  5. Chapter 2 Background/Literature Review/Prior art
  6. Chapter 3 Preliminary Research Results
  7. Chapter 4 Proposed Research
  8. References
  9. Appendices
