Doctoral Programs in Mechanical Engineering at UML

Preparing a New Generation of Engineering Leaders

The Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) and Doctor of Engineering (D.Eng.) programs prepare engineers for leadership positions in industry, government and education.

Both programs require a doctoral thesis. The Ph.D. program requires a traditional research-based doctoral thesis. The thesis for the D.Eng. can be the traditional research-based thesis, or an industry-based R&D type project.

The D.Eng. program contains a required engineering management component. The Ph.D. program replaces this component with additional technical courses.

Please refer to the graduate catalog for more information on the doctoral programs, including degree requirements, qualifying examination and dissertation requirements.
