Master of Science in Engineering Programs

The Department of Mechanical Engineering offers several options for students wishing to pursue a master of science in engineering degree.  It also offers graduate certificates.

MSE in Mechanical Engineering
This program offers a thesis option and a nonthesis option. The M.S. degree requires a minimum of thirty-three credit hours of acceptable graduate work, including nine credit hours of research for the thesis option or nine credit hours in an acceptable minor for the nonthesis option.

Master's candidates can concentrate in mechanics and materials, thermo/fluids, energy, vibration/dynamics and manufacturing. They also can have approved and customized minors for the non-thesis option in subjects such as manufacturing management, ergonomics, industrial hygiene, bioprocessing, materials, solar energy, nuclear energy and plastics.

Combined BSE/MSE Program in Mechanical Engineering
The Mechanical Engineering Department offers a combined BSE/MSE program that is available to undergraduates with a minimum 3.0 grade point average achieved at the end of their junior year.

MSE in Energy Engineering
The University offers a master of science degree in energy engineering. This unique area of concentration represents a separate multidisciplinary program that is administered jointly by the Mechanical Engineering Department and the Chemical and Nuclear Engineering Department. The energy engineering program has two M.S. degree options: solar engineering and nuclear engineering.

Certificate Programs
Non-degree candidates who have a B.S. in engineering or a physical science with an acceptable grade point average are encouraged to take a 12 credit-hour concentration. A certificate will be awarded upon successful completion. Certificate programs available include: Design and Manufacturing, Integrated Engineering Systems, and Nanotechnology.
