Mary Canniff: Technical Manager

Mary CanniffEducation: B. S. Biomedical Eng. Northwestern University, 1991, M. Eng. Biomedical Eng. Worcester Polytechnic Inst., 1994

Background:
Mary has lived in the New England area since 1996, moving from warm sunny Florida because her husband was looking for work in his field of study.  Her family consists of her husband, Joe, and three lovely yet energetic boys – Nathan, Ben, and Jack.  Outside of running around with her kids to sporting events (mainly hockey arenas), she helps keep the Geotechnical Engineering Research Lab running smoothly, and helps keep Prof. Paikowsky from disappearing beneath the many piles of paper.

Gary Howe: Director of Laboratories

Gary HoweEducation: B.S.E.E. University of Massachusetts - Lowell, 1992, M. Sc. University of Massachusetts - Lowell, 1996

Background:
If one could describe Gary in one phrase, it would be Jack of all trades, Master as well. However, Gary cannot be described in one phrase. During his lifetime, Gary has collected an extensive knowledge of numerous trades, such as auto mechanic, plumber, electrician, and so on. This is extremely handy for someone who helps design and build for myriad research projects. While the students view him as a hard driving taskmaster, they are genuinely thankful for all his efforts. In addition to being an invaluable asset to the laboratories, Gary is also a well-known captain of planes and boats. Never one to let life slide by, he can frequently be found fishing or scuba diving off his boat “Courtney.”
