2007 Honors Fellows AwardDr. Tom Vasilos Receives UMass 2007 Honors Fellows Award
Retired Prof. Tom Vasilos received his B.S. from Brooklyn College and his Sc.D. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He joined the University of Massachusetts at Lowell, as an adjunct faculty member in Mechanical Engineering in 1982. He was appointed a professor of Chemical Engineering in 1987. He served as the graduate coordinator of the chemical and materials engineering programs from 1988 until his retirement in 2004. His research interest are in ceramic dental material and polymer prostheses. He is the author of more than 50 publications in the field of refractory materials processing and characterization. He also holds several patents in this field. Dr. Vasilos is a past recipient of the The Ross Coffin Purdy Award for distinguished achievement from the American Ceramic Society (ACS). He is a fellow of the ACS and served on the National Material Advisory Committee for the National Academy of Sciences (NAS). Dr. Tom Vasilos is a long time resident of Wintrop, MA. At off seasons, you may be lucky to catch him relaxing in his summer homes, either in Naples, Florida or in Cape Cod, MA. Many faculty and staff members of the Chemical Engineering Department attended the Honors Fellows Awards Fundraiser event to honor their fellow colleague in one of his proudest moments.
