New Faculty MembersWe are extremely pleased to announce that Dr. Sanjeev Manohar & Dr. Zhiyong Gu accepted faculy positions in our department in September 2006.
Dr. Zhiyong Gu received his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the State University of New York at Buffalo in 2004 and most recently was a post doctoral fellow at John Hopkins University. His doctoral studies focused on the measurement of intermolecular forces in ordered self-assemblies formed by amphiphilic block copolymers and experimental characterization and mathematical modeling of drying and swelling of ordered block copolymer hydro gels.
As a postdoctoral fellow, he worked in the field of self-assembly and directed assembly of nanomaterials, nonoscale soldering, electronic and biomedical applications of nanomaterials and polymer/block copolymer surfaces and interfaces.
Also, he is affiliated with the UML Nanomanufacturing Center of Excellence. His current research interest include nanomaterials and nanotechnology, nanowires, self-assembly and directed assembly, amphililic block copolymers, nanocomposites, interfacial phenomena, thin film and coatings, and novel nanoscale integration for electronics, sensors and biomedical applications.
Dr. Sanjeev Manohar received his Ph.D. in Organic/Polymer Chemistry from the University of Pennsylvania in 1992. He has more than 13 years of experience in the field of conducting polymer synthesis and applications, including 6 years of industrial experience in the development of new waterbased surfactant and polymer systems for specialty cleaning products. Over the past five years he has been active in the field of soft organic electronic materials, their synthesis, characterization and application in the emerging nanotechnology area.
Also, Dr. Manohar is affiliated with the Center for Green Chemistry. His group will identify new opportunities in the area where nanotechnology and green chemistry overlap. In addition, he has been developing new teaching/mentoring methods to enhance scientific literacy in the general populace.
