What do I do if...

My transfer credits don’t look right?

See your advisor and take a copy of your transcript(s) so your advisor has that record to review.

If you have a disagreement about a course that was not accepted for transfer credits, please bring your advisor a completed academic petition and the disputed course description.

I took that course and it’s not falling into the requirement!

If you know you’ve taken a required course and it’s not falling into your degree progress report properly, contact

Jacob Clayton, ext. 2938
Sheila Riley-Callahan, ext. 2946
or advisement@uml.edu
.

Staff members can help decipher exactly what the problem might be and direct you accordingly.

How can I learn what courses satisfy general education requirements?

They are listed in the front of the course selection book each semester.  Also, if you search online, a general education course will have a requirement designation of SS or AH preceded by the letter “L” (for Lowell).  The General Education Department has the complete list.

What do those funny number sequences mean? (r12,ln10)

Those numbers assist us with troubleshooting and processing student exceptions and updating degree requirements and are nothing for you to worry about.

Why did I get a message saying I am not eligible?

The degree progress report is only valid for:

  • Undergraduate day school students who entered the University Fall 2005 and later.
  • Continuing Studies students in degree or certificate programs who entered the University Fall 2006 and later

If you entered the University prior to that, you will receive the message stating you are not eligible. However, you could always run a “what-if”  to see how you are progressing in the requirements of your major using the fall 2005 requirements. Use 1510, which is the code for fall 2005, as your requirement term.

At the end of my report, I see classes listed that do not fulfill any requirement and which shouldn’t be there.  What should I do?

Your advisor is the first person to whom you should talk.  You may have courses that aren’t “exactly” equated to one of your required courses, but are an acceptable substitute.  Your advisor is the person who can make this decision.
