Inaugural Benefit GalaDate: April 3, 7:30 p.m. Location: Allen House, UML South Description: The gala at the historic Allen House on UML South, sponsored by Aramark, will benefit scholarships and support campus initiatives. The Allen House, an Italianate-style residence built in 1854, offers one of the city’s most scenic views of the Merrimack River. Charles H. Allen served in Congress and was later appointed by President William McKinley to be assistant secretary of the Navy and then in 1900 the first civilian governor of Puerto Rico. The University acquired the house in the 1950s. It underwent a three-year renovation before re-opening in spring 2007 as a premier location for University events. In addition to recognizing the week’s sponsors and donors, the gala will feature the presentation of the University’s Circle of Distinction award to Alan Solomont ’77, a leading expert and provider of eldercare in New England.
