Inaugural Concert and Reception

Date: April 3, 4:30 to 6 p.m. reception; 6 to 7:30 p.m. concert

Concert: Durgin Concert Hall, UML South

Description: On the eve of the inauguration ceremony, there will be a musical celebration featuring renowned UMass Lowell faculty performers, conductors and accomplished student ensembles, including the University Orchestra (under the direction of Kay Roberts), Wind Ensemble (under the direction of David Martins), Concert Band (under the direction of Dan Lutz), and University Choirs (under the direction of Murray Kidd).

In addition, there will be special guest performances by faculty duo-piano team Bonnie Anderson and Thomas Stumpf, and a faculty jazz quintet featuring Jon Wheatley on guitar, Walter Platt on trumpet, Ken Reid on saxophone, Mark Henry on bass, and Jim Lattini, on percussion, joined by student singer Dayna Brown. 

Prof. Andre Dubus III, award-winning author of "House of Sand and Fog," also will read from his work.  This event will be preceded by a reception with Chancellor Meehan. Some of the funds generated from this event will be used to support the UMass Lowell Music Department – the first public institution in the United States to offer a music education degree.  These events are sponsored by the Department of Music and the College of Arts and Sciences.
