Description: Author and activist Jonathan Kozol will deliver the annual M. Virginia Biggy Lecture sponsored by the UMass Lowell Graduate School of Education. Panelists – led by Bridgewater State College President Dana Mohler-Faria, the governor’s education adviser – will offer commentary and engage with Kozol and audience members following the lecture.
Kozol, author of “Savage Inequalities,” “The Shame of the Nation,” “Death at an Early Age” and other works focused primarily on children in schools has, for over 40 years, championed the cause of equal access for all students to high quality public education in the United States. Most recently, Kozol engaged in a public fast to protest the Federal No Child Left Behind Act. Kozol remains deeply engaged in policy debate on issues of class, race, civil rights and public education. Kozol will be joined by a diverse panel of professionals including school practitioners and experts across a range of disciplines.
