Fighting Heart Disease and Stroke Public Service Award - The American Heart Association September 26, 2000 The American Heart Association (AHA) recognized Congressman Meehan for his work on strengthening both tobacco controls and campaign finance laws with their annual National Public Service Award. The Award is given to those Members of Congress who have, according to the AHA, "actively promoted our mission of reducing disability and death from heart attack, stroke and other cardiovascular disease." Only two other Members of Congress earned this recognition from the AHA that year.

Top Score for Protection of Animals - The Humane Society of the United States March 9, 2000 Congressman Meehan received this award due to his 100 percent support of the interests of The Humane Society of the United States in 2000. The Humane Society is an independent, not for profit organization. The scorecard is published by The Humane Society of the United States and The Fund for Animals. Infertility Awareness Leadership Award - RESOLVE: The National Infertility Association 2000 In honor of Congressman Meehan's work on infertility issues, The National Fertility Association RESOLVE presented him with its Infertility Awareness Leadership Award in September of 2000. Congressman Meehan introduced important legislation in the 106th Congress (H.R. 2774) to require federal employee health plans that offer obstetrical benefits also to provide coverage for the diagnosis and treatment of infertility. It was with profound appreciation for his leadership and contribution to infertility awareness that he was recognized.

The Campaign's quarterly magazine for the Summer of 1997 named Congressman Meehan to its "Hall of Fame" for his stand against discrimination in our armed forces and his concern for the plight of gay youth.
