Provost Search Initiated

Chancellor Marty Meehan has initiated a nationwide search for a new provost.

The chancellor has appointed a search committee of prominent community leaders and faculty members across campus disciplines, led by Co-Chairs George D. Behrakis, chairman of Gainesborough Investments, and Engineering Prof. Julie Chen, director of the Nanomanufacturing Center of Excellence.

Other committee members include: Associate Chancellor Jacqueline Moloney; UMass Senior Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs Marcie Williams; Middlesex Community College Dean and Alumna Molly Sheehy; and Professors Craig Armiento, Judy Boccia, Stephanie Chalupka, Ed Chen, Carol McDonough, Mark Hines, Ann Marie Hurley, Jim Jeffers and Laura Punnett.

The University has hired Korn/Ferry International to assist with the search, which could take six to 12 months to complete.

The search committee, which will begin meeting this month, will engage the campus community in the process by providing regular updates and public sessions as appropriate.  Please e-mail Chair Chen at Julie_Chen@uml.edu with any suggestions or recommendations.

Chancellor Meehan said the administration is grateful to Dr. Donald Pierson, who is providing “tremendous leadership” as the interim provost.  Dr. Pierson will continue to serve in his current role while the search is ongoing.
