INSTRUCTIONS: Complete the following two tasks. You will be given plenty of options that will challenge your knowledge of GIS and make you realize how much you have forgotten. GOOD LUCK and remember NO CHEATING! (Cash bribes are accepted, food works too!) CHOOSE YOUR PARTNERS WISELY!!! (If you crash the computer you fail)
Your knowledge on the following areas will be tested:

- Part One - UNITED STATES
NOTE: We only are concerned with the 48 continental United States.- Layers
- Start out by opening the following tables:
- Capitals
- Cities
- Highways
- States
- NOTE: The tables above should appear in this exact order within Layer Control.
- Change the colors of the following tables:
- Highways
- States
- Start out by opening the following tables:
- Thematic Mapping.
- Create a Thematic map using any of the open tables. (You are free to base your map on any category using any table.)
- Next customize your map to your own specifications. Remember when you complete your map, you don't want it to be cluttered.
You might have to remove (from view) some tables.
- Layouts
- Print your work using the layout feature.
- On a single page you must have your:
- Map
- Title
- Legend
- NOTE: These cannot overlap. (The legend must not cover any state)

- Start out by opening the following tables:
- Streets
- Waterways
- Boundaries
- NOTE: The tables above should appear in this exact order within Layer Control.
- Start out by opening the following tables:
- Tasks to get the job done
- Plot on the map with the help of Find, the following points on the cosmetic layer
- 600 Suffolk Street and 1 University Ave.
(Use any symbol that you want and save the cosmetic layer) - Draw a line between 600 Suffolk street and 1 University Ave and determine the distance between the two and label it on the map.
- Now open the table Middle Schools (in your own folder
- Select objects from Middle Schools table that are within 1.5 mile radius from 600 Suffolk Street Use Radius Select button (Remember a certain layer has to be editable)
- Label the highlighted objects by using Label button
- 600 Suffolk Street and 1 University Ave.
- Plot on the map with the help of Find, the following points on the cosmetic layer
- Thematic Mapping.
- Create a bi-variate map of the Middle Schools using either Bar Graphs or Pie Charts. (You are free to base your map on any category using any table.)
- Next customize your map to your own specifications.
- Geocoding
- Create a browser with 3 columns: Name, Address, and Phone Number.
- Enter the names, addresses and phone numbers of all your classmates. (Enter only those who have addresses in Lowell.)
- Geocode this browser using some creative. Remember when you complete your map, you don't want it to be cluttered. You might have to remove (from view) some tables.
- Save your workspace.
- Layouts
- Print your work that you have just done before using the layout feature. On a single page you must have your:
- Map
- Title
- Legend
- Browser
- NOTE: These three cannot overlap. (The legend must not cover the city of Lowell)
