How to create and draw your own map. 

Choose one of the two categories to work with: The United States or Lowell. 

  1. The United States - Open up the following tables within MapInfo
    C:\MapInfo\Class\United States\States or Another map of your choice within the directory C:\MapInfo\Class\United  States
    1. We must make our map Editable.
      1. Place your mouse arrow over the map & click the right mouse button.
      2. Next choose Layer Control
    2. We need to make the Cosmetic Layer Editable, so choose the Cosmetic Layer's Editable box. Now you will notice that the Drawing Toolbar has become active… IT'S TIME TO PLAY! Go to STEP 3!
      OR
  2. Lowell  - Open up the following tables within MapInfo C:\MapInfo\Class\Lowell\Boundary
    C:\MapInfo\Class\Lowell\Targets or Another map of your choice within the directory C:\MapInfo\Class\Lowell
    1. We must make our map Editable.
      1. Place your mouse arrow over the map & click the right mouse button.
      2. Next choose Layer Control
    2. We need to make the Cosmetic Layer Editable, so choose the Cosmetic Layer's Editable box. Now you will notice that the Drawing Toolbar has become active…IT'S TIME TO PLAY! Go to STEP 3! 
       
  3. Now you get to draw on the map.
    1. Click a button on the Drawing Toolbar and start creating on your map.
      ONLY ONE REQUIREMENT! You must create a line from 2 points & show the distance that this line encompasses, To do this:
      1. Select the Line Button on the Drawing Toolbar.
      2. After you have created your line, select the Ruler Button on the Lower Toolbar and measure your distance between your two points by:
        1. Moving the Mouse Cross Hair to the first point and click the left mouse button and drag the Cross Hair to the second point.
        2. Next press the Esc button on the keyboard, your mileage line will disappear but the legend box will still show the mileage.
    2. We will now place the distance on the map.
      1. Select the Text Button on the Drawing Toolbar and enter in your mileage on the map near your line.
      2. Once you have entered your mileage, you need to choose the Select Arrow to edit the mileage.
      3. Next take the mouse arrow and highlight your mileage. You will notice when your mileage is highlighted, that five points appear close to the highlight. Four will appear on the corners of the highlight, and a fifth off the lower right.
      4. We are only concerned with the fifth. Select it and move it around.
      5. Notice how the orientation of your text changes.
      6. Now, edit your text so that it is precisely parallel to your line.

NOTE: Don't close it because you are going to print it when you get back.
