Scholarly Interests

Mary Beth Smrtic, Project Manager, is a doctoral student and research assistant in the Institute for Visualization and Perception Research and the Center for Biomolecular and Medical Informatics labs in the Computer Science department at the University of Massachusetts Lowell. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer and Information Science and a Master’s Degree in Biomedical Engineering and Biotechnology. She has 15 years of professional software development experience, specializing in software to simplify, compress and interpret large datasets. She worked at Lotus Development Corporation and some successful startups. She is a certified ScrumMaster and a published author on Extreme Programming; both Agile development methodologies. Her current research interests include web based interactive visualization of spacio-temporal data and emergent properties of collaborative software development.
