RENEWABLE ENERGY LABORATORYDescription A working hybrid wind/photovoltaic system is installed on the roof of the College of Engineering. The power generating units of the system are the following: a 2500W photovoltaic (PV) array and three wind turbines driving brushless synchronous generators rated at 1500W, 500W, and 300W. The hybrid system also includes power conditioning units and a 44 kWh set of lead batteries used for energy storage. The Laboratory itself houses instrumentation and control panels, including a computerized data acquisition system which records all variables, i.e., system voltages, currents, power, wind speed, and generator frequency. The hybrid wind/photovoltaic system can work in two modes of operation: stand-alone and utility interactive. Courses Offered:
