Department of Work Environment
The Department of Work Environment was founded in 1987 and offers master's and doctorate degrees in five different concentrations. Students learn how to evaluate environmental health hazards and design/evaluate effective interventions.
Center For Family Work and Community
CFWC specializes in organizational development, consultation and training. Its goal is to support community capacity building by working with groups and organizations in the region to aid them in learning how to conduct strategic planning in their field.
Center for Women and Work (CWW)
The CWW is an interdisciplinary center dedicated to exploring the gendered conditions of work, challenging inequities, and thereby enhancing well-being and economic opportunities for all women through research, education and social action.
Kerr Ergonomics Institute (KEI)
The Kerr Ergonomics Institute (KEI) was founded in 1991 to develop programs and strategies that promote worker health and improve long-term company productivity. KEI promotes injury prevention, fostering the development of effective work processes, and developing sound industrial and public policy by providing consultation and training to local, national and international companies and public agencies.
Lowell Center for Sustainable Production (LCSP)
The LSCP develops, studies and promotes environmentally sound systems of production, healthy work environments and economically viable work organizations. It is associated with the Department of Work Environment and the Toxic Use Reduction Institute.
School of Health & Environment (SHE)
The School of Health Environment's goal is to that assists the individual, family and community in the pursuit of a high level of health.
Toxic Use Reduction Institute (TURI)
Established by the Commonwealth's Toxics Use Reduction Act (TURI) of 1989, the Institute works in conjunction with the state's Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) and the Office of Technical Assistance (OTA) to help industries, institutions and communities implement toxic use reduction as a means of achieving both a cleaner environment and a healthier economy for the Commonwealth. As a multidisciplinary research, education and technical support center, TURI provides services that complement the regulatory work of DEP and the on-site technical assistance provided to industry and institutions by OTA.
Center for Health Promotion & Research Projects
Promoting Healthy And Safe Employment in Healthcare (PHASE)
A research team of University of Massachusetts Lowell researchers from a variety of disciplines (epidemiology, ergonomics, nursing, health care and work environment policy, political science, economics, health education, community psychology) has received support from the National Institute of Occupational Health and Safety and the National Institutes of Health to conduct a five-year research project to examine how working in the health care industry affects workers' health.
The New England Consortium (TNEC)
The New England Consortium (TNEC) is the region's model HAZWOPER worker health and safety training organization. For 15 years, TNEC has provided dynamic hands-on, participatory health and safety training. With simulated work tasks and mock incidents, students gain a better understanding of work site hazards and how to properly respond in an emergency situation.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is recognized as the lead federal agency for protecting the health and safety of people at home and abroad, providing credible information to enhance health decisions, and promoting health through strong partnerships. CDC serves as the national focus for developing and applying disease prevention and control, environmental health, and health promotion and education activities designed to improve the health of the people of the United States.
Environmental Protection Agency
This government site provides information about environmental health topics such as pesticides, air quality, water quality, and ecosystems and their impact on human health. Information about government regulations and programs addressing environmental health issues is presented.

Children’s Health Environmental Coalition Network (CHEC)
Children’s Health Environmental Coalition Network (CHEC) is a charitable, non-profit organization that researches the causes of childhood cancers and their relation to hazards in the environment. CHEC is dedicated to educating the public, specifically parents and caregivers, about environmental toxins that affect children’s health.
Clean Water Action (CWA)
Clean Water Action (CWA) is a national citizens organization working for clean, safe and affordable water, prevention of health threatening pollution, and the creation of environmentally safe jobs and businesses. CWA organizes strong grassroots groups, coalitions and campaigns to protect the environment, health, economic well-being and community quality of life.
