Congratulations to Nicole Champagne, who received a $12,500 pilot award from UMass CCTS Community Engagement and Research program to fund a study entitled "Obesity/ Overweight and the Role of Working Conditions in Lower Income Workers, a Qualitative, Participatory Investigation." Through this pilot award, CPH-NEW is collaborating with Massachusetts Coalition for Occupational Safety and Health (MassCOSH), the Immigrant Worker Center (IWC), and the Boston Workers Alliance (BWA) to identify factors in the workplace that lower income workers perceive affect their weight status.

The working paper, Preventing Chronic Disease in the Workplace: A Workshop Report and Recommendations (pdf), that Laura Punnett, Martin Cherniack and Supriya Lahiri contributed to is published in the American Journal of Public Health.

CPH-NEW has been awarded funding by NIOSH to develop a Pilot Projects program. The purpose of the Pilot Project program is to conduct preliminary research in any area of workplace health and safety related to the NIOSH "Total Worker Health" (TWH) program (formerly the WorkLife Initiative) and CPH-NEW. Award will be announced early 2012. New application will be accepted Fall 2012.

We are pleased to officially announce that the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) has renewed funding of the Center for the Promotion of Health in the New England Workplace at UMass Lowell and the University of Connecticut.
