Tulum
Őner Tulum has been a Marie Curie Postdoctoral Research Fellow
(2007-2009) at the Centre for Innovation and Structural Change (CISC), National
University of Ireland Galway (NUIG). At CISC, he is involved in Project Lucerna,
which aims to identify and analyze emerging high technology industries and
regions in the Republic of Ireland. He and his colleagues at CISC are developing a virtual
laboratory by gathering micro-level data to examine Irish high-technology firms
and better understand the underpinnings of Irish economic success.
Prior to joining CISC, Tulum worked for two years for Professor William
Lazonick as a research assistant in the Department of Regional Economic and
Social Development at the University of Massachusetts Lowell on projects that focused on Massachusetts’ high-technology exports and on the evolution of major
high-technology regions in the United
States. He
was also an economics researcher in a study conducted by the UMass Lowell Toxic
Use Reduction Institute on the innovation process and commercial potential of a
number of non-toxic chemical alternatives. In December 2009 Tulum completed all
the requirements for a Master of Arts degree in Regional Economic and Social
Development at UMass Lowell. Before coming to UMass Lowell, he worked as a
market analyst in a leading security and investment firm in
Turkey, and interned as a financial planner and analyst in
leading holding companies in Turkey. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in economics
from Anadolu University in Turkey. A Turkish citizen, Tulum is a permanent
resident of the United
States.
