Center for Family, Work and Community
Welcome to the UMass Lowell Center for Family, Work and Community (CFWC)!The Center, through grant writing, program development and participatory research activities, focuses on sustainable economic and social development, leadership development, family enrichment, capacity building, and empowerment in areas such as environmental quality, community-based economic development, education and college access and the connections between work and family life. The Center places particular emphasis on expanding the capacity of organizations and community groups to address cultural diversity, changing community leadership and family roles, and urban youth participation. All of the Center’s activities are based on a multicultural approach to human problems. In all of its efforts, the Center for Family, Work and Community strives to:
We deeply value community partnerships and work to bring faculty, staff, students and community partners together whenever possible. We help enhance community and organizational capacity by bringing university skills, strategic planning and expertise to community partners. At the same time we learn from our community partners about what the community needs and how the community thinks we can participate in addressing these needs. For example, most recently we’ve worked closely with urban youth to increase their civic engagement, academic interest in science, and access to college education. We encourage you to get to know more about CFWC by exploring our website or paying us a visit. We also welcome you to contact us by e-mail or by phone: 978-934-4677.
