Communication and Outreach

Thinking Out Loud is an all volunteer FM radio based media project focusing on the issues of the community, the workplace and the environment. Thinking Out Loud airs on UMass Lowell's WUML-FM, every Monday -Thursday from 10 am til noon. The ten-hour public affairs program has segments in three languages, English, Khmer and Spanish. The show includes live commentary by volunteers consisting of more than 15 local community activists and university students and staff. Nationwide public affairs features such as "Between the Lines", "Workers Independent News Service" and the Maryknoll's "Voices of Our World", are aired each week as well. Jim Giddings is the host and program engineer. The show is produced by Dan Toomey.

Thinking Out Loud also features two weekly segments - Environmental Corner and the Long View.

Environmental Corner Radio Show        

This weekly radio show, hosted by Julie Villareal, can be heard on WUML 91.5 FM from 11:30-noon on Wednesday mornings. The show brings a variety of guests covering many environmental issues from  healthy lawns without pesticides, composting, recycling, healthy homes, Lowell-Dracut-Tyngsboro State Forest, Concord River, precautionary principle and sustainable agriculture.

The Long View     

Every Thursday at 10:10 a.m. during “Thinking Out Loud”, Isa Cann hosts “The Long View”, an approximately 20-minute news and information segment addressing living and working towards sustainability, highlighting economic, environmental and social development news. Critical Media Literacy also informs the weekly content.
