Race Relations Council

Lowell is striking in its diversity.  CFWC staff are now working with the Lowell Police Department to facilitate the development of a race relations council that will assist the police department in strengthening its collaborations with local residents.  The success of this work is now being used to develop a manual and set of materials that will be used nationally to build stronger relations between diverse communities and their police departments.

The Department of Justice has recognized the Lowell Race Relations Council as a national model which is useful for training.  Lowell has now become a national training site for 22 cities from across the nation.  National trainings occur four times a year and provide a two-day intensive workshop for 25-30 police administration and community representatives.
