River Ambassador Program

The River Ambassador Program (RAP) is an award-winning CFWC-facilitated youth program that tests new approaches to involving youth in urban environmental issues. Over 250, primarily Southeast Asian, high school students have participated in the program since its inception in the 1990s. RAP’s mission is to develop strategies for out-of-school learning on environmental issues, helping students find innovative ways (such as analyzing the impact of iPods on the environment) to combine science and action. RAP members have written and produced original plays, songs, and cable television shows on environmental science, they have published journal articles about their work, and they have presented at national and international conferences on the out-of-school time strategies for urban youth.
