The Clean Energy Workforce Development program is a collaborative effort between the Toxic Use Reduction Institute at UMass Lowell and the Lowell Center for Sustainable Production to examine workforce development issues and promote job growth within the regional clean energy industry.  This program has received financial support from UMass President’s Office Creative Economy and Science and Technology Funds, Massachusetts Clean Energy Center, and New England Clean Energy Council. The program has done the following:

  • Analyzed existing clean energy labor market data sets and studies
  • Interviewed key informants and stakeholders
  • Organized and facilitated summits with clean energy industry representatives, educational and workforce development stakeholders, and policy makers
  • Convened working groups to develop, define, and describe clean energy career pathways, and analyze existing and emerging educational and training needs
  • Wrote summary reports of discussions and recommendations from participations at key stakeholder events.
