CLINICAL LABORATORY SCIENCES
MEDICAL TECHNOLOGY MAJOR
The Medical Technology major:
• Prepares students for a career in Laboratory Medicine
• Provides in-depth training in Clinical Hematology, Clinical Microbiology, Clinical Chemistry, Clinical Immunology, and Clinical Immunohematology (Transfusion Medicine)
• Does this through lecture and laboratory courses taught here at the University and clinical internships at area hospital laboratories
• Prepares and qualifies students to sit for the national Medical Technologist certification examination offered by the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) and the national Clinical Laboratory Scientist examination offered by the National Certification Agency(NCA)
Graduates of this option have been successfully employed (100%) in jobs such as:
• Hospital laboratories (Massachusetts General Hospital, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Lahey Medical Center and many of our local hospitals)
• Tufts Veterinary Hospital Laboratories, Quest Diagnostics Laboratories, Mayo Medical Laboratory of New England, and the American Red Cross
• Researchers in laboratories at various university and medical schools in the Greater Boston area and beyond
• Commonwealth of Massachusetts State Forensics Laboratory
• Sales representatives, clinical research associates, technical field representatives, and quality control personnel in various biomedical, biotechnical, and pharmaceutical institutions (i.e. Wyeth Pharmaceutical, Andover,MA, Bristol-Myers Squibb, Billerica, MA and Bayer Diagnostics, Walpole, MA)
Graduates of our Medical Technology program have been accepted to:
• Graduate school for Masters and PhD degrees in various science disciplines (Biology, Biotechnology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Nutrition, Physical Therapy and Clinical Laboratory Sciences)
• Medical school, Physician Assistant and Pathology Assistant programs
• Advanced degrees in Business Administration, Health Administration, and Education
