Mechanical Engineering Educational Objectives

Objectives are defined as the expected accomplishments of graduates of the program in first few years after graduation.

Graduates of the BSE Mechanical Engineering program at the University of Massachusetts at Lowell will be able to:

• Pursue successful careers in mechanical engineering, or related engineering fields.
• Engage in lifelong learning and continued professional development in engineering or non-engineering fields.
• Engage in service activities related to their profession.

Mechanical Engineering Educational Outcomes

Outcomes are defined as the expected skills of graduates at the time of graduation.
Graduates of the BSE Mechanical Engineering program at the University of Massachusetts at Lowell program are able to:

• Apply the principles of advanced engineering math, physics, and chemistry to the solution of problems in the fields of mechanics, fluid flow, heat transfer, materials engineering and vibrations.
• Design, perform and analyze experiments.
• Design, build, and test a system, component or process to meet specified requirements.
• Seamlessly integrate the use of computers into engineering projects, including most 3D computer-aided design, spreadsheets and a programming language.
• Communicate technical information, including oral presentations, written reports, and an ability to work on and communicate with multi-disciplinary team members.
• Understand the need to assess the impact of engineering designs on society, including factors such as economics, the environment and sustainability.
• Understand the concept of the engineering profession through an exposure to professional societies, professional registration, the need for lifelong learning and professional ethics.
