UMass Lowell Bellgarde Boathouse Rental Information

UMass Lowell is delighted to host your special event this year.  The Bellgarde Boathouse is located on the beautiful banks of the Merrimack River.  The deck facility offers 180 degree views of the river along with stunning sunsets.  With more than a million dollars worth of renovations, this state of the art facility is ready to host your private function.

Facilities
The maximum capacity for rentals is 100 persons for a sit down dinner and 150 for a cocktail reception. The rental area is limited to the 2,000 square foot deck overlooking the river.  Special permission may be granted for excursion boats to land on the docks to drop off or pick up passengers.

Equipment on hand :

  • 10 round tables, 8′ diameter, seating 10 each (12 maximum)
  • 6 rectangular tables , 6′ length, aproximately 2 ½ ‘ width, seating 6-8 each
  • 180 folding white wooden chairs, cushion seats
  • Sound system

The UMass Lowell Bellegarde Boathouse does not have a preferred caterer. We do require that any caterer be licensed in accordance with Massachusetts Department of Health regulations. Caterers must provide a copy of their certification as a Professional Food Manager. Caterers must also register with the City of Lowell no later than seven days before the event and pay the appropriate fee.

All decorations, food, trash and cooking or serving items must be removed from the UMass Lowell property immediately after the event by the caterer and/or the renter: i.e. - take it with you! Failure to do so will result in withholding of all or a part of the security deposit.

Event Supervisor
UMass Lowell requires that an event supervisor be present during all rentals.

AlcoholLanterns

Alcohol is allowed at events with prior approval. Cash bars require a six week lead time for approval and the caterer must have a license with the city of Lowell. Open bar events require a TIPS certified bartender.

Police Details
A police detail will be required at all events requesting alcohol to be served.  Police detail fees will be charged at a maximum of $50 per hour with a four hour minimum.

Fee Schedule
General Rental Fee (covers five hours)
Saturdays: $ 1,500
Fridays and Sundays: $ 1,000
Security Deposit: $ 500 (for groups greater than 20 people)

Member & Small Group Fee
Saturdays @ $ 150/hour, minimum 2 hours
Fridays and Sundays @ $ 100/hour, minimum 2 hours
Security Deposit: $ 500 (for groups greater than 20 people)

Additional Set-up/ Clean-up Time
Fees quoted above include one hour before and one hour after rental time. Additional time for set up or clean up available at $ 150/hour.

Boathouse from DocksSecurity Deposit Policy
Security deposits are returned promptly after the event. The most common reasons for withholding all or part of the security deposit are excessive cleaning (avoid confetti, sparkles, rice, etc.) or running overtime. These items are within the control of the renter and can be avoided.
