Campus Recreation Center

New this year, the Campus Recreation Center (CRC) will be offering a Kettlebell Basics Instructional Class!  Kettlebell exercises are whole-body exercises requiring full-body integration and core stabilization.  There is no isolated muscle work in Kettlebell training.

Kettlebells can be used in ballistic or swinging movements or in push-and-pull exercises similar to those used with standard weight.  The displacement of the weight from the hand requires that the stabilizing muscles engage more with each movement than would be required of a similar movement with a dumbbell.

This six-week course will take you through a progression of learning the proper form and technique for some basic Kettlebell movements and then building upon these movements to transition into some more functional exercises.  Each week you will do a review of the exercises you learned in the previous weeks.  No experience is necessary!

Program Progression:

Week 1:  Taps & swing
Week 2:  Swing & 2-handed clean
Week 3:  Swing, 2-handed clean & front squat
Week 4:  Swing, 1-handed clean & shoulder press
Week 5:  1-handed swing, swing, & clean with press
Week 6:  1-handed swing (alternating), clean with press & high pull
