The Office of Campus Recreation relies on student employees to fill a number of positions throughout the program.  While many positions are filled with students who qualify for either Work Study or the Campus Work Program, funds are available for students who do not qualify for a financial aid work program.

  • Fitness Staff - Staff will monitor the Campus Recreation Fitness Center.  Duties include insuring safety of participants, enforcing fitness center policies, making sure participants return equipment to proper storage areas, and cleaning the fitness center as required during each shift.

  • Intramural Official - Students are trained to work as officials in a variety of team sports including flag football, floor hockey, indoor soccer, volleyball, basketball, softball and outdoor soccer.  No experience is necessary just the joy of sports and the willingness to learn.  To become an Intramural official, all you have to do is attend the official's trainings; we’ll teach you the rest!

  • Intramural Scorekeeper - Students are trained to keep score in a variety of team intramural sports including flag football, softball, indoor/outdoor soccer, broomball, ice hockey, volleyball, street hockey & basketball.  Duties include maintaining electronic and manual scoreboards, keeping game records and statistics.
     
  • Group Fitness Instructor - Students can instruct a variety of group fitness (GFIT) classes including step aerobics, cardio-kickboxing, zumba, yoga and spinning classes.  The CRC offers free group fitness instructor training to anyone who are interested in potentially teaching GFIT classes at the CRC.  

  • Personal Trainer - Students are responsible for leading fitness orientations and workshops, conducting fitness assessments, and developing personal fitness programs for individuals and small groups. Personal trainers will also help out with different CRC fitness programs throughout the year. The CRC will only hire students who are Juniors/Seniors in the Exercise Physiology program and/or have a nationally recognized PT certification.

  • Welcome Desk Staff - Students staff the welcome desk at the entrance of the Campus Recreation Center.  Along with verifying the identity of students, faculty/staff, and CRC members that want to enter the facility, employees handout equipment, collect guest fees, sell memberships, register people for programs and disseminate information regarding the facility and programming.

  • Swim Instructor- Students swim instructors will teach group swim lessons at Costello Gym throughout each semester and summer.  The CRC offers an 8-week fall & spring session that meet on Saturday mornings.  The CRC also offers a 4-week summer session that meets in the evenings during the week.  Instructors will teach American Red Cross levels 1-6 with an instructor-to-swimmer ratio of 1/5 for most levels.  American Red Cross WSI certification and experience preferred.

  • Lifeguard - Students will guard Saturday morning group swim lessons at Costello Gym for the 8-week fall and spring sessions. The CRC also needs lifeguards for its 4-week group swim summer session that meets on weekday evenings.  Lifeguards will guard vigilantly throughout their shifts with a 5-minute break every hour. One guard to 25 swimmers.  American Red Cross certification and experience required.

  • Outdoor Adventure Trip Leader - Students will be trained in leading trips including, rock climbing, hiking, kayaking, and many other exciting activities.  Prior experience in the outdoors and wilderness first aid certification preferred.  Valid driver’s license and clean driving record required.  Lead trips of up to 10 people to spots all around New England and beyond.

  • Student Marketing Positions - There are two different types of jobs available at the CRC.
    • Graphic Design-Student(s) will be responsible for  creating and disseminating marketing materials to promote CRC programs to include, but not limited to: posters, flyers, banners, newsletters, calendars, special projects, and web design.  Graphic design, web design, and marketing majors preferred; work study required.
    • CRC Photographer-student(s) will be responsible for taking photos for different CRC programs and special events including intramural sports, club sport games and practices,  group fitness and instructional classes, outdoor adventure trips, as well as special CRC events throughout the year.  Photography/Art majors & experience with graphic design (Photoshop) preferred; work study required.
  • Bike Shop Mechanic - Students who apply for this position must be proficient in bicycle maintenance and repairs.  Job will include performing bike assessments, tune-ups, repairs, part sales, and maintaining an inventory of parts.  Work study is required.
  • RecKids Summer Camp Counselor - Students will be responsible for overseeing children ages 6-11 years of age in our RecKids Summer Camp.  RecKids is a 3-week recreational camp that typically runs at the end of June and beginning of July, Monday - Fridays 7:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.  Counselors will be responsible for leading camp activities that include sports, fitness, arts & crafts, etc. 
  • Fitness and Wellness Internship/Practicum - This program is designed to enhance students' classroom instruction with practical experience in the fitness and wellness field. Students from all programs of study are encouraged to apply. This position may fulfill educational requirements for some majors.
