A Reading Celebrating First Books by Adjunct Faculty in the English Department

Sandra A. Miller's essays and articles have appeared in over one hundred publications, including The Boston Globe Magazine, for which she is a regular correspondent. One of her essays, "Wait," was turned into a short film starring Kerry Washington. Trove: A Woman's Search for Truth and Buried Treasure is her first book. Kirkus Reviews calls it, "A stirring memoir that beautifully and humorously captures the pain of unresolved loss."

Sara Backer’s first book of poems, Such Luck, follows two chapbooks, Scavenger Hunt and Bicycle Lotus, which won the Turtle Island Poetry Prize. She holds an MFA from Vermont College of Fine Arts, and her writing has been honored with residency fellowships from the Norton Island and Djerassi programs. Recent publications include Qu, Nonbinary Review, The Pedestal, Journal of Compressed Creative Arts, Moria, Hawaii Pacific Review, Bamboo Ridge, and Tar River Poetry.

Joanne Carota’s first novel is The Docks.She holds an MFA from Solstice at Pine Manor College and an MA in Writing and Literature from Rivier University. Her work appears in publications including Pink Panther, Merrimack Journal, Chelmsford Independent, and Middlesex Beat. In 2018, she received The Sterling Watson Fellowship to attend Writers in Paradise, Eckerd College.
