Grades 3-6
Journey to the heart of a culture and discover the value and beauty of a mythology linked to nature. Native American Nature Tales explores tribal myths and legends of the animals and birds of North America. Ranging from the humorous to the heart-felt these stories celebrate Native culture and its strong links to the natural world.
In this performance students will learn an Abeknaki (Northwest Woodlands) canoeing song celebrating the corn, explore more than seven different animals in the Northwest Coast legend of the Loon’s Song and discover why America is called Turtle Island. The haunting star myth of Morning Star and North Star from the Blackfoot tribe (Plains) completes the storytelling magic. Join one of New England’s favorite storytellers as she weaves colorful tales of the Native American landscape.
