Show Times & Location
Performances are at 9:30 and 11:30 a.m. unless otherwise noted. All performances are approximately one hour in length. All performances are held in Durgin Hall, a professionally equipped theatre on UMass Lowell South.
Seating
Durgin Concert Hall seats 900. For selected shows only 500 to 700 seats will be used due to the nature of the show. All seats are assigned according to the date of the reservation, with any necessary accommodation for special needs. Actual tickets are not issued. The House Manager will greet your group and assign an usher to lead you to your assigned seats.
If you want to select the show time and/or day with the best seating available and your school has the flexibility to do so, please indicate on the bottom of the order form.
Durgin Hall is handicapped-accessible, but notice of special seating needs MUST be given in advance. Please understand that we will make every effort to give your students comfortable and appropriate seating, but we cannot guarantee this unless you discuss your needs with us in advance.
Indicate your special seating needs on the order form.
Age Appropriateness
In order for students to fully benefit from these performances, we must insist that children under the age of four not be brought to the theatre. Children under this age do not have the attention span or the ability to absorb a one-hour performance and can be a source of distraction to both the audience and the performers. The STARTS series is intended for school-aged children, and programs are chosen to complement the curriculum in each grade level. Babes in arms are NOT allowed.
Directions
Directions for driving and parking will be sent with study guides four weeks before each show. Campus police will meet each bus and direct the busses to park on Wilder Street after unloading. Groups arriving by car or van must obtain a parking permit in advance and park in the Riverview student lot. Directions and a permit will be mailed at the beginning of each semester.
Weather Cancellations
During winter months, there is a possibility that a show may have to be canceled or postponed due to weather. The Center for Arts and Ideas will cancel a show if the Lowell Public Schools are closed. If the weather seems threatening, call the STARTS Hotline after 6:30 a.m. for a recorded message at 978-934-4452.
Every effort has been made to ensure the accuracy of information in this brochure. However, the Center for Arts and Ideas reserves the right to make changes of any nature in its program or calendar. Timely notice will be given if changes are required.
