Points of Pride

Many UMass Lowell alumni who remain connected to their alma mater have pride in the University’s accomplishments, whether in the classroom, the research lab, the community, the business world or the athletic field. They recognize the dramatic impact UML graduates and faculty have on the region, the nation and the world.  Check out 10 reasons to be a proud UML alumnus/a.
 

Ten Reasons to Be Proud You’re a UML Alumnus/a:

1. Fellow alumni are doing great things. We’ve listed just a few here.
 
2. Professors are doing research that will change the world, and they share that knowledge with our students. Check out some recent projects.
 
3. Prof. John Warner’s Center for Green Chemistry approaches environmental sustainability in a new way, by designing material and processes with minimal or reduced environmental impact, rather than treating and disposing of toxic chemicals once they are created. Find out more.

4. UML impacts the community.

5. UML’s Division I hockey team placed 17 players on Hockey East’s All-Academic Team in 2005. And the pep band is great too. See what else our athletes are up to.
 
6. Incoming students test scores are rising. More and more students are applying.
 
7. New facilities, such as the Recreation Center, critical listening and recording studio, radio station, and new theater make campus living even more enjoyable.
 
8. Over the past 10 years, working with UML’s Toxic Use Reduction Institute, Massachusetts businesses have reduced their use of toxic chemicals by one-third, even in the face of a 45 percent increase in production.
 
9. Commercial Venture Development Unit has helped eight start-up companies and created more than 100 jobs in the Lowell area.
 
10. The University’s Baseball Research Center tests the liveliness and hardness of baseballs used in Major League Baseball, including the World Series.
