Defibrillators Donated to Police Department

UML Police Chief Brian Pray recently accepted the donation of two portable defibrillators from Trinity Ambulance and the student service fraternity Phi Kappa Sigma. Calling the gift “a terrific example of town-gown relationships,” Pray lauded Trinity principals John Chemalay and Gary Sepe for donating one $2,000 unit outright and offering the second unit at a discounted price. Phi Kappa Sigma raised $650 for the second unit.

Pray said the two units will mean all patrols will have access to a defibrillator at all times. After department-wide, first-responder training, the units will be in patrol cars starting this summer.

Senior criminal justice major and EMT Michael Fletcher of Norwell represented Phi Kappa Sigma at the ceremony. He said the fraternity solicited local businesses and UML administrators and families to raise the money for the second unit.
