At the June meeting of the UMass Board of Trustees on the UMass Lowell campus, the board approved, among other things, a proposal by Rep. Kevin Murphy to rescind an honorary degree awarded to President Robert Mugabe of Zimbabwe in 1986 because of his regime’s human rights abuses and stifling of political freedom in the country. The vote was unanimous.
