Kerry Sends 2,040 Graduates on Their Way

At the 2008 Commencement ceremony, U.S. Sen. John Kerry called UMass Lowell the “economic engine of the area,” and encouraged the 2,040 graduates to become active citizens.

 

Award-Winners Honored at Fundraiser

More than 150 people gathered at Allen House the night before Commencement to recognize student award-winners, honorary degree recipients and the distinguished alumni award winner.

 

Endowment Honors Dick Barrett

Family and friends attended a tribute to the late Dick Barrett, raising funds for an endowment that will help students in emergency financial situations.

 

Bat Lab Takes Show on the Road

UMass Lowell’s Baseball Research Center will take part in a new traveling exhibit hosted by the Museum of Science in Boston this summer.

 

Provost Plans to Strengthen Academics

Ensuring the success of undergraduate students, strengthening graduate programs and research and “internationalizing” the UMass Lowell experience are among the top priorities of newly appointed Provost Ahmed Abdelal.

Stay Connected Through Online Community

More than 4,000 UMass Lowell alumni have joined NetworkUMass, the University’s online alumni community, since its launch in late March. Those who register are able to network with other alumni from UMass Lowell, as well as alumni from UMass Boston, Dartmouth and the Medical School.

 

Alumna Revitalizes Lowell Fund

After almost two years without a staff specifically dedicated to the Lowell Fund, efforts to revitalize the University’s annual giving program have taken on new life, thanks to the efforts of new assistant director of the Lowell Fund, Kim Ducharme ’05.

 

Get Your Gift in Soon!

Send your gift in by June 30 to receive credit for the 2007-2008 fiscal year. Gifts to the Lowell Fund, no matter what the size, are put to immediate use to help meet current on-campus priorities, such as scholarships, faculty development, library and computer upgrades, special research projects and campus facility improvements.

Band Camp Concert Features Chancellor

Chancellor Marty Meehan will narrate a special concert band work “JFK in Memoriam” at the finale concert of the Mary Jo Leahy Summer Band Camp on Saturday, July 19 at 11:30 a.m. in Durgin Hall.

 

Hockey Alumni Golf Tournament

Sponsorships are still available for the 10th-annual Hockey Alumni Golf Tournament on July 28 at Turner Hill Golf Club in Ipswich.

 

College of Management 50th Anniversary

Come celebrate the 50th anniversary of the College of Management during a networking dinner at the Campus Recreation Center on Saturday, Sept. 20. UMass Board of Trustees Chairman Robert Manning ’84 will be the keynote speaker.

Herenda New Basketball Coach

Greg Herenda, an assistant men’s basketball coach at UMass Lowell from 1983 to 1985, has been named the River Hawks new head men’s basketball coach.

 

Stegnar Top Hockey East Scholar

Frank Stegnar was one 13 UMass Lowell hockey players who achieved Hockey East All-Academic Team honors this year. This is the fourth straight year the River Hawks have had at least 11 players named to the All-Academic Team.
