New Degree in Technology, Innovation Created
Beginning this fall, the College of Management will offer a new master’s degree program that combines expertise in business education with UMass Lowell’s strengths in engineering and the sciences.

 

Coppens Named Interim Dean

Nina Coppens, professor and chair of the Psychology Department, has been named Interim Dean of the College of Arts & Science, Division of Fine Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences. She replaces Prof. Charles Carroll, who has provided leadership to the college for the past seven years.


Leahey Honored at World Premiere

Hundreds of parents, alumni and friends heard the world premiere of “Reminiscent Rhapsody,” the first of five new wind-band pieces commissioned by Deb Huber of the Department of Music, at the finale concert of the Mary Jo Leahey ’37 Symphonic Band Camp on July 18.

Lowell Native Leads Scholarship Effort

Demetrius Rizos '91 is leading a team of Lowell natives that recently established the Crossing the Merrimack Endowed Scholarship Fund to benefit deserving, graduating Lowell High School seniors who plan to major in biology at UMass Lowell.

River Hawks on the Rooftop

Alumni are invited to join students for a barbecue on the parking garage rooftop on East Campus as part of opening week activities on Tuesday, Sept. 1, at 5 p.m. During the barbecue, 600 tickets will be given out for the Lowell Spinners' last home game, which starts immediately following at 7:05.


Boutin Golf Tournament

The 19th annual David J. Boutin Golf Tournament will be held at the Meadow Creek Golf Club in Dracut, MA, on Friday, Sept. 25. $150 per golfer. Proceeds support the David J. Boutin Memorial Scholarship Fund.

 

Go Behind the Scenes of Broadway

Join executive producers Bonnie Comley '81 and Stewart Lane for a screening of their documentary "Show Business: The Road to Broadway" on Thursday, Oct. 15, at 6:30 p.m. at the Comley-Lane Theatre on South Campus. After the movie, Bonnie and Stewart will talk about the making of the movie and answer questions.

Hockey Hall of Honor to Induct Three

The UMass Lowell Hockey Hall of Honor will induct three members of the hockey community as its class of 2009 in a pre-game ceremony before the River Hawks' match against Hockey East foe Northeastern on Oct. 24.

Soccer Ranked No. 8 in Preseason Poll

The UMass Lowell men’s soccer team, fresh off one of its most successful seasons in program history, was ranked No. 8 in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America 2009 Division II Preseason Poll.
