The Department of Higher Education requires all public institutions of higher learning to administer assessment tests to all incoming freshmen. The Office of Undergraduate Admissions administers the required math and reading tests prior to summer orientation. The goal of the program is to properly place students in first-year math and English courses so that all students experience academic success. The results of a student's exams will have a direct impact on their first-year courses.
The math and reading tests are offered during the spring and MUST be completed prior to new student orientation. All students will complete a writing assessment during their summer orientation. Students who are unable to attend orientation must schedule an individual appointment to complete their writing assessment test.
A student may be exempted from the assessment tests if they have taken AP exams and received a score of at least "three" on the AP English or AP Calculus exam.
Students who have a documented learning disability should contact Dr. Chandrika Sharma, coordinator of Disability Services, at 978-934-4574. Testing administrators will be unable to accommodate your needs if Dr. Sharma is not contacted.
