Senior, majoring in economics
I transferred to UMass Lowell as a junior in Economics. The economics program allows a lot of flexibility in choosing classes, and so I’ve been able to take the classes that really interest me—classes relating to development. I even earned credit for a research project that was supported by one of my professors.
The highlight of my year was the summer session when I studied abroad in Barcelona, Spain. Not only did I improve my Spanish, but I enjoyed experiencing the cultural differences. I never had such an appreciation for art and architecture until I saw the amazingly creative Dali and Gaudi designs in Spain. I’d definitely recommend that every student make time in their schedules for research and study abroad programs that will individualize their college experience and take learning beyond the classroom.
