Growing up in a small town in western Massachusetts, I was familiar with the big campus atmosphere of UMass Amherst. However, I wanted to attend a smaller college in another part of New England. A state school was my best option because affordability was important. UML met a lot of my criteria. And once I attended an open house here, I felt really confident about my decision. I had a gut feeling that this was the right place for me. It’s exciting to be part of a progressive university that is on the cutting-edge of innovation in many fields.
In high school I was very involved in clubs and activities and I continued my involvement here. The yearbook was one of the first organizations I joined and now I am the co-editor of the Sojourn. In addition to being president of the senior class, I also am travel chair for CAPA, the Campus Activities Program Association, and plan off-campus trips to Red Sox and Celtic games, Six Flags and other fun day trips. I’ve made a lot of great friends through these groups.
I’ve really liked my psychology courses. I want to work with special needs kids and eventually earn my master’s degree. The professors are very knowledgeable and helpful, but I’ve learned it is really important to take the initiative and ask for help when you need it.
