TOEFL Information

Applicants must be proficient in English to succeed at UMass Lowell. Prospective students whose native language is not English or whose language of instruction has not been English are required to take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). They must submit their score on the TOEFL as part of their application package.

For freshmen applicants, the University requires a minimum score of 550 on the paper version of the test, 213 on the computer-based version and 79-80 on the internet-based version.

For transfer applicants, the University requires a minimum score of 500 on the paper version, 173 on the computer-based version and 61 on the internet-based version.
