1. Where do students begin the advising process? Counseling reports are available on ISIS to students' advisors. Students should schedule a time to meet with their advisor prior to registration. If they do not know who their advisor is, they are encouraged to check with the department office of their major or with the Dean's office of their College.
2. How can a student obtain an academic transcript? For students enrolled prior to January 2000, forms are available in the Registrar's Office or here. Students enrolled after January 2000 may print unofficial transcripts or request official transcripts through the ISIS student self-service. Transcripts may be requested in person or by mail with the following information: dates of attendance, student identification or social security number, full name while in attendance, and complete address of where the transcript(s) are to be forwarded. UML does not provide transcripts to anyone with an outstanding obligation to the University.
3. How does Add/Drop work and what are the dates? During the first 10 days of class in the Fall and Spring semesters students may use the ISIS student self-service system to drop a class they do not want to take, and try to add classes they want. Permission numbers are required only if the class is full. Adding is based upon space availability.
4. What does a student need to do in order to withdraw from a course? Students can withdraw from a course through the ISIS student self-service system. Undergraduate students can withdraw from a course during the first 50 days in each semester with a grade of 'W'. Students withdrawing after the first 50 days will receive a grade of 'F'.
5. Can a student repeat/delete a course for a better grade? Yes, but in order to improve your GPA, the course must be taken at UML. Students must submit a Repeated Course Form from the Registrar's Office. Only grades of CD or lower may be repeated for substitution. Although the transcript will show the student took the course twice, notation will be shown indicating that the first grade will no longer affect the GPA.
6.Why did I get this grade? As a general rule grades cannot be removed. If a student does not understand why a certain grade was received, he or she should contact the instructor for an explanation of how the grade was computed. It is best to do this as soon as possible after receiving grades. Only in cases of error can a grade be changed.
7. How do students know which credits UML is accepting from work they did at another college? Transcripts from other colleges are evaluated shortly after we receive them. New students are given preliminary evaluations in their first meeting with an academic advisor. Continuing students must complete an Authorization of Off-Campus Courses Form prior to pursuing this option in order to guarantee credit transfer.
8. Who can tell students if they are eligible for VA benefits or a veteran tuition waiver? Eligibility for veteran tuition waivers depends on the period of service. Recipients must be a Massachusetts resident for at least one year prior to attending school. We have a Veteran Services Coordinator in the Registrar's Office. Call (978) 934-2469 for assistance or information on specific benefits for which you may be eligible.
9. How does a student obtain enrollment verification? Students can obtain an unofficial verification of enrollment or request an official verification of enrollment from the ISIS student self-service system. ***
