As Provost, Ahmed Abdelal serves as the chief academic officer of the University. The Provost's responsibilities include oversight or coordination of:

  1. strategic planning
  2. curriculum, instruction and academic program initiatives
  3. research policy and activities
  4. outreach and assessment
  5. libraries and academic services
  6. faculty professional development.
He has also been interviewed repeatedly by the media regarding his expertise of the Middle East.
