Partha Chowdhury

The role of the Vice Provost for Research is to enhance the research mission of the university, by providing oversight and coordination of matters related to research, developing and supporting new grant opportunities, and serving as a representative and champion of research initiatives on this campus to the world at large.

Partha Chowdhury was appointed interim Vice Provost for Research at UMass Lowell in February 2007. Dr. Chowdhury received a Ph.D. in experimental nuclear physics from the State University of New York at Stony Brook in 1979. He has been been a faculty member in the Department of Physics for the past 12 years, leading federally funded research programs involving R&D partnerships with national laboratories and Massachusetts-based industries.

Prior to joining UMass Lowell, he held faculty appointments at Wellesley College and Yale University.
