Description How has industrialization affected our waterways?
This program focuses on the dramatic impact the American Industrial Revolution
has had on our environment. Activities Include
- Travel by boat up the Pawtucket Canal and out to the Merrimack River

Learn how the river was used for fishing, transportation, and power

Test the pH, turbidity, dissolved oxygen, and temperature of the river water
-
Identify possible sources of pollution of the past and today
- Determine
water quality from collected data and observations.
Scheduling
and Reservations
The River As A Classroom is offered September 15-October
15, 2008 and May 18-June 19, 2009. Maximum number per group: 27 people, including
adults; preference given to two classes from the same school on any day.Schools must arrange to keep busses in Lowell for use during this program.

Programs may be reserved as of May 1, 2008 for dates during the 2008-2009 school
year by calling Lowell National Historical Park at 978-970-5000. Please
