Description

The mechanized production of textiles in 19th century Lowell revolutionized both the industry and the way that people worked. This program investigates both the changes in technology and the changing role of workers.

Activities Include:

  1. Weaving cloth on four-harness hand looms;
  2. Participating in an activity that visually demonstrates how changes in textile technology increased the work load of the weavers;
  3. Visiting both the Boott Cotton Mills Museum and the restored "mill girl" boardinghouse.

Bale to Bolt is offered September through June.
