Educational Background

Tom Estabrook holds a Ph.D. in geography and political economy from Clark University.  He is a Certified Environmental, Safety and Health Trainer (CET) in occupational safety and health.

Bio Sketch

Tom Estabrook is a senior worker health and safety trainer at UMass Lowell's The New England Consortium, where he has worked for 13 years, conducting numerous worker health and safety courses in hazardous waste operations and emergency preparedness and response, construction safety and work zone safety.  He applies popular education (empowerment) techniques at every opportunity.  He also conducts workshops on clean production and pollution prevention.  He regularly teaches an undergraduate community health course at UMass Lowell.  Prior to his work with TNEC, he served as coordinator of the Louisiana Labor-Neighbor Project (a project of the Oil, Chemical and Atomic Workers' Union) and executive director of the Boston-based Massachusetts Toxics Campaign.  Tom is a governing board member of the Alliance for a Healthy Tomorrow, a coalition of public health, environmental, community and labor organizations promoting progressive environmental policies in Massachusettts.  He is also an active union leader in the Massachusetts Teachers Association.  Mr. Estabrook has lived extensivley in Europe and Latin American and is an avid traveler, soccer dad and distance runner.
