Jose D’Arruda

Dr. Jose D’Arruda received his B.S. degree from Lowell Technological Institute (UMass Lowell’s former institution) in 1965. He is a professor in the Chemistry and Physics Department at the University of North Carolina, Pembroke. He was awarded the Pembroke Professorship in the College of Arts and Sciences in 2010 for his long and distinguished record of service to the University as a teacher and scholar. He joined the faculty in 1969 to teach physics and chaired the department for 23 years. He has been awarded many outstanding teaching awards for his work in developing robotics workshops for students, physics education workshops for teachers and organizing regional science fairs. In addition, his research areas include: quantum statistical mechanics, computational physics and astronomy/astrophysics.
