Dr. Barry has taught a wide variety of courses in Analytical Chemistry, including a graduate level course in chromatography and separation methods, his primary area of research. His research group is presently studying and monitoring the atmospheric deposition of polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons by GC-MS. His current research interests also include computer-assisted optimization of separations by capillary GC, rapid separation of small ions by capillary zone electrophoresis, high-speed gas chromatography and the determination of organics in challenging matrices such as cement and concrete. His research has also developed an aerosol-based nitrogen/ phosphorus detector and an alternating current plasma emission detector, both of which have been successfully interfaced with capillary GC and HPLC. He is author or co-author of over 100 publications. Dr. Barry is also co-director of the popular two day short course, Practical Gas Chromatography: Packed and Capillary Columns ( Day 1:Injection Systems and Mobile Phases; Day 2: Columns and Column Selection) presented annually at the Eastern Analytical Symposium and Pittcon.
