At the Department of Work Environment (DWE) at UMass Lowell, the emphasis is on preventing work-related illnesses, injuries, and deaths simultaneous with the promotion of the health and safety of both the workers and the general environment. Our curriculum focuses on identification, assessment, and prevention of chemical, ergonomic, safety and other hazards to human health.

Our concern with the work environment also encompasses the psychosocial stressors of the workplace that affect workers' health and job performance and the employer's productivity.
